SUMMARY:Community Event:  Tayside Mountain Rescue Charity Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun\, informative and no doubt\, eye-opening day.  Tayside Mountain Rescue team will be present to demonstrate their specialist equipment\, answer questions\, and showcase their vehicles\, drone\, and possibly one of their working dogs. Their much-loved mascot\, Hamish\, will also be joining us on the day. \n\nTayside Mountain Rescue is a volunteer run charity that operates 24 hours a day\, 365 days a year.  No-one gets paid and they rely entirely on funding to procure the tools and equipment necessary to rescue people and animals from our local mountains and hills.  If you ever find yourself in a situation where you require rescue\, they will be there\, giving up their own time and expertise to help save you. We’re proud to support an organisation that plays such a crucial role in keeping people safe in our region. \nTakings from castle admissions on the 6th September 2025 will be donated to Tayside Mountain Rescue. The money will go directly to support the vital work they do across our region.

SUMMARY:Family Event:  Autumn Foraging at Blair Castle
DESCRIPTION:This autumn foraging course is an invitation to learn about the edible and medicinal autumnal plants and fungi found in the grounds of Blair Castle & Gardens. Autumn is a special time for foraging and this walk will give us time to celebrate the best of this season\, join us as we discover many different varieties of mushroom\, nutritious nuts and seeds and succulent berries. \nThe course consists of a 2.5 hour foraging walk\, in which you will learn lifelong identification techniques\, inspiring recipe ideas\, and a wealth of ethnobotanical tales. \nDuring the walk we will move through a variety of habitats – woodland\, meadow\, hedgerow and garden – taking time to connect with each surrounding environment\, noticing their changing flora and subtle variations in character. \nWe will finish up with a wild tea and homemade cake and biscuits in Hercules Garden\, with time to revise the plants learnt and how best to store them for future use. \nAll participants will also receive a personalised PDF containing information about all the plants met. \nThis course will give you: \n\nHow to safely identify over 20 edible and medicinal autumn plants\, fungi and trees\nMethods and techniques for how best to work with them as food and medicine\nA time of mindful walking among beautiful grounds\nExciting recipes to regularly include wild plants in your meals\n\nWhat to bring: \nShoes that are comfortable and waterproof \nWet weather gear in case of rain \nA basket or container \nMeeting point: \nMeet on the green in front of the castle\, next to the ‘The Cannon’ coffee cart. \nDate: 20th September 2025 or 21st September 2025 \nTime: 10.30-13.30 \nCost: £45\, kids go free.
